The Primary Advantage Maths programme is designed to support schools leaders in building upon good practice in their schools to ensure maths teaching and learning is of the highest quality and all children make at least good progress.
The PA package was developed by a group of practising teachers from the PA Federation and is rooted in current research based practice in mathematics teaching and learning. It aims to develop children’s conceptual understanding and skills proficiency and is underpinned by a strong commitment to problem solving, reasoning and fluency.
By engaging with the PA Maths Programme, teachers are demonstrating a commitment to sharing the values that underpin it, namely the belief that primary mathematics is a crucial phase in laying the foundations for lifelong numeracy skills. This drives the focus on conceptual understanding, skills proficiency, problem solving, reasoning and fluency which comprises the PA Maths Programme.
Through sharing our experiences with the wider primary community through the PA Maths Programme, we hope to make a positive contribution towards maths teaching and learning. Primary Advantage Maths has been used by over 100 primary schools, in Hackney, across London and beyond.
“We relaunched PA Maths in our school this year and the training and CPD opportunities have been brilliant. As a new lead practitioner, I found the Core Training extremely helpful and the resources available have been useful for me to adapt when training staff in school.
We also had Sarah Mather in school to carry out a whole school staff training as well as a bespoke review/workshop day. Sarah spent time with all staff across the school to address topics specific to their cohort. As part of the day, she also carried out a book look with myself, from which we were able to put in place changes that have made a great impact across the school. Staff left feeling more confident with delivering Math lessons for a Mastery curriculum. Thank you PA Maths!”Jana Murray, Lead Practitioner for Maths – Lime Academy Larkswood
Schools new to the PA Maths programme will need to subscribe and become a PA Maths Member and take part in Core Training.
The Core Training is also available to schools that already use the PA Maths programme but have new Maths Leads or practitioners who would like to find out more about the programme’s rationale.
All schools that have undergone Core Training then have access to book teachers onto on range of PA Maths CPD.
