Many of our teachers mentor new trainee teachers who are on placement with us in our schools. Our teachers enjoy doing this, finding it simultaneously develops their own skills in teaching, leadership and reflection, as they pass on their experience to a new generation of teachers. Our teacher mentors are supported by experienced school mentors in their schools, usually a member of SLT. In the past we provided in-house mentor training to our own teacher-mentors. The universities we work with now offer a comprehensive training package for mentors, which all our teacher-mentors will access.
Mentor training aims to:
Establish clarity around mentor and mentee roles and responsibilities
Explore the latest research and approaches to mentoring
Develop practical skills and strategies for supporting trainee teachers
Support collaboration to build mentor expertise and capacity within and across schools
We have experienced school mentors who can provide bespoke mentor training to schools and other organisations if needed. Please contact us for details at palearning@primaryadvantage.hackney.sch.uk or call 020 7254 1010 (option 5).
