18 Jun Primary Advantage Summer Art Exhibition 2024: Voice
We are proud to present artwork on the theme of ‘Voice’ created by children in the 8 Primary Advantage schools on display at Hackney Libraries during summer 2024.
The children from Year 1 to Year 6 created paintings, collages, 3D and multimedia pieces with their teachers and local artists. They were inspired by artists from different movements and also figures in history who used their voices for change. They learnt that art can be an impactful way to express ideas, feelings and tell stories. Some children studied activists such as Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafzai and how their voices were used to stand up for what they believe in. Those children created portraits of those figures and whilst they were drawing reflected on the impact they have had.
The image here was created by Y3 children inspired by an artist who began sculpting when he became verbally disabled. The children created photomontage collages based his sculptures and learned that art is a powerful way to express one’s inner voice.
Please take the opportunity to visit the work if you can. The exhibition is on display from June 2024 throughout the summer at the following venues:
Hackney Central Library: artwork from Morningside, St. John and St. James, Springfield and Gainsborough Primary Schools
Dalston CLR James Library: artwork from Holy Trinity, St. Matthias, De Beauvoir and St. John the Baptist Primary Schools
